Product Review – Trailer Aid for Your Horse Trailer

Two Black and Brown HorsesWhether you own horses and have a horse trailer or even if you have other trailers you use, there are some items to keep on hand in case of a flat tire. Travel trailers, horse trailer, utility trailers and others can experience tire damage or a blowout. Trailering horses and experiencing a flat tire can be a chaotic and stressful occurrence. May people have to unload their horses in order to properly reach and change the tire which only adds more safety concerns.

Unloading your animals on the side of a road or near a highway can be dangerous. They may be frightened, or passersby may honk their horns or somehow unknowingly scare the animals. Checking your tire pressure and keeping it at the recommended volume can ensure you are towing properly.

The Trailer Aid Tough-1 Trailer Jack Stand is a tool I keep in my horse trailer along with a Universal Lug Wrench This aid is designed for use so that you DON’T have to unload your animals or use a jack. You simply drive the trailer up the small ramp until it rests on “scoop” area where your good tire will rest.  It offers about 4.5” of lift so you can remove the damaged tire and replace it -all without the use of a jack. It is recommended for torsion and tandem axle trailers and this model is considered the “basic” model.Image result for trailer aid plus and tough-1

These Aids come in either bright yellow or black. It is made of high strength polymer and only weighs about 5 pounds which makes it perfect to haul around. It is slim and easy to store too! The specs of the Aid states it can take a capacity of 6 tons or approximately 12,000 pounds.

A newer version of the Trailer Aid has quickly become a favorite amongst equestrians, and that is the Trailer Aid Plusversion. The shape and colors are the same, but the top “scoop” part has an extra inch of lift, making it 5.5” of height you get your wheel off the ground. This can be beneficial for larger tires and heavier trailers. Those that want the extra room to work should consider the PLUS model.

To utilize either of the Trailer Aids, simply drive the good tire up on the trailer aid. This item is a back saver!  It also takes the stress out of hauling horses because you know the tire can be changed and without unloading anything. This is a fantastic safety item that not only can be used on horse trailers, but many other types of trailers and can be used for trailer maintenance as well as for emergencies.
