“Good day my lady. Your horse awaits you.”
I can just picture a perfectly groomed horse with flowing mane and tail adorned with the finest leather tack waiting impatiently- ready to canter through the countryside with the statuesque stone towers fading behind.
The reins are handed over as you mount and head for the higher ground where grass hills offer the freedom to canter and enjoy the sights.

The Blue Lagoon. The Northern Lights. Dancing Waterfalls. Unparalleled scenery.
Iceland offers some amazing things to see. On top of all these remarkable attractions, there are HORSES.
Have you considered incorporating horseback riding into your Iceland itinerary? You can on an epic roundup adventure.
Join ranchers and farmers on a horseback adventure as they bring their sheep from the grazing highlands down closer to home in anticipation of the winter that lies ahead.
Thousands of sheep will cover the mountains as you join the ranchers in herding them to their winter grasslands. Riders will take direction from the ranchers and you can help maneuver, direct, sort, and find the sheep.
Herding sheep is a traditional event, and many parts of Iceland offer this experience. You can try different regions each year or just try one! Each offers a different landscape and an experience with amazing people you will never forget.
Spaces are extremely limited so book early for this incredible horseback riding experience.
Depending on the itinerary, riders will either be staying with the farmers/ranchers in their home or with them in mountain huts. Sleeping space is limited so keep in mind most areas will be shared to create a truly memorable trip😊
Meals are provided. Expect breads, meats, cheeses, lamb, fish, and vegetables. Lunch will be eaten on the go as you will be out riding. Breakfast and dinner are usually eaten either back at the home or in a sleeping hut.
Some of the farms may have special accommodations such as hot tubs. You can inquire when applying.
Flights should be taken to the city of Reykjavik. Take the FlyBus to your hotel From there you will be picked up for the roundup as well as returned to the hotel for your departure once your riding experience is over.
Are you ready to herd sheep in Iceland? See the best of Iceland as it was truly meant to be seen- by horseback! Happy herding 😊
